About the course

A Beauty therapist works in one of the largest, trusted, professional and continually expanding industries within the Hair and Beauty Sector, contributing over £28 billion to the UK’s economy. The work environment can be varied in size, style, and ambiance, from a cruise ship, through to small bespoke salons or luxury high end beauty salons and spas.

 

Beauty Therapist’s deliver essential one-to-one Beauty Therapy treatments whilst maintaining the organisation’s image, financial viability, and reputation. They complete all duties and treatments within the scope of the occupational role in accordance with legal, industry and organisational requirements within commercially viable times whilst acting with professionalism, without supervision and observe safe working practices to a high level of precision.

Is this course right for you?

This apprenticeship is available for any learner above the age of 16 and there are no entry requirements for the apprenticeship.

The beauty therapy apprenticeship will last between 15 - 18 months, on average. During your apprenticeship you will be earning a wage while learning your skills, an apprentice will be employed in a salon for a minimum of 30 hours per week and will be entitled to all the benefits of your qualified colleagues.

What you will learn

You will study the knowledge, skills and behaviours as set out within the apprenticeship standard, which will include the following subjects:

  • carry out beauty therapy treatments in line with legal, industry and organisational requirements, maintaining honesty, integrity and confidentiality.

  • carry out, maintains and stores detailed and confidential beauty treatment consultations with clients, choosing the most appropriate treatments and products.

  • implement and practice safe ways of working for themselves and others in accordance with legal beauty therapy and organisational requirements.

  • select, use, and apply a range of beauty therapy techniques, products, tools and equipment to provide:

  • waxing services (legs, underarms, face and bikini line).

  • hand and nail treatments.

  • foot treatments.

  • facial skin care treatments.

  • eyelash and eyebrow treatments.

  • make-up application.

  • basic massage treatments (back, neck and shoulder).

  • facilitate the client journey, make appointments, completes the services and handles payments from clients.

  • provide advice and recommendations on the beauty treatments and appointments.

  • portray professionalism and values that meet Beauty Therapy industry requirements and expectations.

  • maintain standards of appearance and the salon/spa image, etiquette and hygiene.

How will I learn?

Our sector expert staff will support you to achieve the apprenticeship. We have highly skilled and knowledgeable staff with significant experience of working in the industry who will be able to share their experiences and support you.

We deliver the programme throughout the year providing you with the flexibility to start the apprenticeship when it meets your needs. All learning is either on a 1-2-1 basis or small group webinars so you have the best experience possible with sector experts.

We have designed a flexible programme which is typically delivered on a 1-2-1 basis and includes:

  • Assessment and induction

  • Face-to-face sessions (or remote delivery)

  • Regular 1-2-1 support (face to face and/or remote)

  • Assignments

  • Observations

  • Ongoing mentoring, coaching and support (including information, advice and guidance)

  • Specialist English and/or Maths support (if needed)

 

You will also record and track your learning progress through your e-portfolio, helping to support and evidence your journey.

There will be an external assessment at the end of the programme, once the apprentice has achieved the ‘gateway’ requirements. This includes achieving the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care. End-point assessment methods, timescales and location

 The end-point assessment consists of two distinct assessment methods:

  1. Observation of leadership

  2. Professional discussion

 

The end-point assessment must be completed over a maximum period of three months after the apprentice has met the EPA gateway requirements.

 

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.

  • Level 2 English and Maths (If not completed prior to starting the programme). For those with an education, health and care plan, or a legacy statement, the apprentice’s English and Maths requirement is Entry Level 3 at a minimum. For those whose primary language is British Sign Language (BSL), the qualification BSL is an alternative and viable qualification.

Progression

Having successfully completed this qualification, learners will have the opportunity to progress to the following:​​

  • Senior Leader at Level 7

Once the apprenticeship has been achieved the candidate will have:

 

  • NVQ Level 2 in Beauty

  • Functional skills in Maths and English level 1

 

Progression

You will be a fully qualified beauty therapist and able to practise independently in your salon once you have finished your beauty therapist apprenticeship.

Achievements and progression
End Point Assessment

For the End-Point-Assessment, you will complete a multiple choice knowledge test (40 questions) within a 60-minute period. The second assessment is a practical 
observationwhere you will be required to source two models to demonstrate a range of services against industry standards and timings.

 

Grading

You are able to achieve a Pass,  Distinction, or Fail.
