English Functional Skills Overview
The Functional English courses are for anyone who wants to develop their English skills. The course helps you to develop your skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening and communication.

The course will also help you to gain confidence and a positive attitude to learning. You'll be able to use your new confidence and skills in day to day life and work.
Functional English courses are available at different levels to make sure your class is suited to you and your abilities.
​
Pre-entry level classes will help you build confidence in using English and provide a springboard to further study.
​
Entry level classes will help you to build practical, transferable skills. These classes are available at Entry 1, the starting point, through to Entry 3. Achievement can provide the skills for further study at Levels 1 and 2.
​
Level 1 and 2 qualifications are designed to help you to read, write, speak, listen and communicate in English. You'll be able to apply these skills in the workplace and in other real life situations.

This course will enable you to:

Move into further study, support you to gain employment, help you move into better employment where English is an entry requirement. Some learners study this course to help their children with English homework.

You'll also develop the following skills for work:

Working as part of a team, sharing ideas and motivating others to complete tasks.

Having a positive attitude to plan your own work and complete this within a set time.

Being a good listener and being able to follow instructions.

Being able to adapt the way you work when things change, or if you need to switch to a different task quickly.

Maths Functional Skills Overview
This course is for you if you'd like a formal maths qualification for further learning or work. This accredited course will develop your skills and confidence in the key maths topics of:

fractions, decimals and percentages

shape and space

using data and probability

You'll be offered a course that's at the correct level for you. Your maths tutor will plan activities to support you to learn new skills, understand concepts and solve problems to achieve your qualification and progress to the next level of study.

The course will support you to gain employment or better employment where maths is an entry requirement. Some learners study this course so they can help their children with maths.

You'll also develop the following skills for work:

Problem solving skills. You'll be working on real life maths problem solving.

Team working skills. You'll work with other learners in your group.

Communication skills. This will be in class, in feedback, and through verbal and digital communication with your tutor.

Digital skills. You'll use PCs, laptops and tablets.

Resilience. Maths isn't an easy subject. You'll build resilience by keep trying even when it can be difficult.
