VTCT Level 1 Award In Assisting Health Related Activity Sessions

Course Summary

VTCT Level 1 Award in Assisting Health Related Activity Sessions is a qualification that has been designed to introduce learners to the knowledge and skills needed to assist in the planning, preparation, delivery and conclusion of health related activity sessions.

In this qualification learners will develop the practical skills needed to motivate and communicate effectively with participants, exploring requisite knowledge and understanding, including principles of fitness, physiological benefits of physical activity and health and safety.

Areas which may be covered during the course:

  • Know the health and safety considerations when planning activity sessions

  • Understand the principles of fitness

  • Understand the effects activity sessions have on health

  • Plan an activity session

Progression

When successfully completed learners will have the opportunity to progress to the following VTCT qualification:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness

  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being Operational Services

  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership

Progression opportunities also exist in the form of specialist VTCT vocationally related qualifications:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing

  • Level 2 Diploma in Exercise, Health and Fitness Instructing

  • Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Training Sessions

 

VTCT Level 1 Award In Active, Healthy Living

Course Summary

VTCT Level 1 Award in Active, Healthy Living is a qualification that has been designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills needed to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle.

This qualification will develop learners knowledge of the basic principles of active healthy living. These include physical activity, healthy eating guidelines, healthy living practices and how the body works.

Areas which may be covered during the course:

  • Be able to plan and demonstrate an activity session

  • Understand the principles of active, healthy living

  • Understand the health and safety considerations when taking part in physical activity

  • Know the principles of training

  • Know how to incorporate different types of activity into everyday life

  • Understand the main components of an activity session

  • Know how to create a personal health and activity log (PAL) for yourself

  • Know how to reflect on the effectiveness of the personal health and activity log (PAL)

  • Know the structure and function of the skeletal system

  • Know the structure and function of the muscular system

  • Know how to outline a balanced approach to nutrition and the types of fuels used to provide energy for activity

  • Know the structure and function of the cardio respiratory system

Progression

When successfully completed, learners will have the opportunity to progress to the following VTCT qualification:

  • Level 1 Award in Lifestyle Management

  • Level 1 Award in Assisting Health Related Activity Sessions

  • Level 1 NVQ Award in Sport and Active Leisure

  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership

  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-being, Operational Services
