VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Cosmetic Make-Up

Course Summary

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Cosmetic Make-Up is a vocational qualification for year 10 an 11 (GLH 175) and is to prepare the learner to enter the specific sector of beauty therapy as a junior make-up consultant. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of a junior make-up consultant allowing learners to develop the skills and knowledge required for this role. They will develop knowledge and understanding of the skin, how to prepare the skin, cosmetic products and application using a variety of techniques.

Areas covered during the two years may include:

  • Applying make-up

  • How to provide eyelash and eyebrow treatments

  • Eyelash Perming

  • Promote sales and display retail stock

  • Health and Safety in the salon environment

  • Client care

Progression

This qualification will prepare learners for employment as a junior make-up consultant. They will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a junior make-up consultant. Career opportunities as a junior make-up consultant exist in a variety of contexts, including:

  • Working in a retail concession in a department store

  • Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

This is the only VTCT qualification which will qualify the leaner as a junior make-up consultant.

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare for employment as a junior cosmetic make-up consultant, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking qualifications in beauty therapy and related specialist areas, these include:

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Beauty Therapy Make-Up

  • Level 3 Diploma in Make-up Artistry

  • Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up
