About the course
Our operations or departmental management programme is made to assist and help those who hold positions that require them to lead teams and carry out business plans successfully.
An internal team of management and leadership specialists has developed a programme that will give you new skills and confidence that you can utilise to advance your career.
An Operations or departmental manager is someone who manages teams and/or projects, and achieving operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy. They are accountable to a more senior manager or business owner. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities and job titles will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same. Key responsibilities may include creating and delivering operational plans, managing projects, leading and managing teams, managing change, financial and resource management, talent management, coaching and mentoring. Roles may include: Operations manager, Regional manager, Divisional manager, Department manager and Specialist managers.
Is this course right for you?
For those with managerial expertise who hold daily senior management and leadership positions, this curriculum is perfect. The Operations Manager, Head of Department, and Regional or Divisional Manager positions are typical for the apprentices we support.
There aren't any official minimum entrance requirements to join the programme; instead, your company will usually establish these. In the past, fulfilling the apprenticeship criteria has included having five GCSEs with a grade of C or better, a suitable quantity of managerial experience, and exposure to sufficient leadership opportunities.

You will also complete the City and Guilds Level 5 Diploma for Leaders and Managers in completing this Apprenticeship.
How will I learn?
Our sector expert staff will support you to achieve the apprenticeship. We have highly skilled and knowledgeable staff with significant experience of working in the industry who will be able to share their experiences and support you.
We deliver the programme throughout the year providing you with the flexibility to start the apprenticeship when it meets your needs. All learning is either on a 1-2-1 basis or small group webinars so you have the best experience possible with sector experts.
We have designed a flexible programme which is typically delivered on a 1-2-1 basis and includes:

Assessment and induction

Face-to-face sessions (or remote delivery)

Regular 1-2-1 support (face to face and/or remote)

Assignments
-
Observations
-
Ongoing mentoring, coaching and support (including information, advice and guidance)

Specialist English and/or Maths support (if needed)
You will also record and track your learning progress through your e-portfolio, helping to support and evidence your journey.
There will be an external assessment at the end of the programme, once the apprentice has achieved the ‘gateway’ requirements. This includes achieving the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care. End-point assessment methods, timescales and location
The end-point assessment consists of two distinct assessment methods:

Observation of leadership

Professional discussion
The end-point assessment must be completed over a maximum period of three months after the apprentice has met the EPA gateway requirements.

Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.

Level 2 English and Maths (If not completed prior to starting the programme). For those with an education, health and care plan, or a legacy statement, the apprentice’s English and Maths requirement is Entry Level 3 at a minimum. For those whose primary language is British Sign Language (BSL), the qualification BSL is an alternative and viable qualification.
Progression
Having successfully completed this qualification, learners will have the opportunity to progress to the following:

Progression
On completion of the Operations or Departmental Manager Level 5 apprenticeship, apprentices can register as full members with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). After 3 years of management experience, this can progress to Chartered Manager status with the CMI.

Achievements and progression

End Point Assessment
There will be an external assessment at the end of the programme, once the apprentice has achieved the ‘gateway’ requirements. This includes achieving the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.
End-point assessment methods, timescales and location
The end-point assessment consists of two distinct assessment methods:

Professional discussion, underpinned by a portfolio of evidence

Project proposal, presentation and questioning.
The end-point assessment must be completed over a maximum period of three months after the apprentice has met the EPA gateway requirements.
