A L&F Software Developer apprenticeship is anything but standard because it places innovation and development at its core.

​

We assist our learners in combining the capacity to diagnose issues, create customer needs, and effectively convey solutions in order to advance business technology, in addition to building technical abilities employing a variety of key technologies and platforms.

​

A typical day as a software developer:

 

  • Writing code in various programming or scripting languages.

  • ​Coding and testing software.

  • ​Creating products within design, time and cost constraints.

  • Troubleshooting and fixing bugs.

  • Analysing complex systems requirements.

  • Monitoring performance.

  • Building and maintaining databases

  • Writing and preparing technical design documentation.

  • Balancing user needs with software requirements.

  • Collaborating with teams across a company.

  • Interpreting briefs and discussing requirements with clients.

  • Attending progress meetings with developers, designers and managers.

If you’re seeking to maximise the benefit of time used as part of off-the-job training and develop technical capability coupled with sector relevant skills that can be directly applied to the role, this apprenticeship might be the right option for you.

Individuals on this programme are employed in a variety of roles, ranging from Web Developer, Application Developer, Mobile App Developer, Games Developer, Software Developer - but this list isn’t exhaustive.

​

One of the key things to success is that the job role and Line Manager provide the opportunities, support and relevant work based projects to be able to contextualise and apply the apprentice’s learning back in the workplace, to gain real competency in that area.

​

The Software Developer Level 4 Apprenticeship is suitable for a number of different job titles. These include Application Developer, Mobile Application Developer, Software Developer and Web Developer. 

What you will learn

Throughout the duration of the Apprenticeship, Apprentices will develop a range of new knowledge, skills and behaviours which will add significant value to each Apprentices overall learning, progress and development. Examples include:

Key Outcomes from Software Developer Level 4

​

Learners who complete the Software Developer Level 4 Apprenticeship will learn how to do the following: 

 

  • Create logical and good quality code with sound syntax

  • Develop effective user interfaces

  • Test code and analyse results to correct errors

  • Create simple software designs 

  • Produce analysis artefacts

  • Apply algorithms, logic, debugging code, and structured techniques to problem-solving

  • Communicate software solutions and ideas to stakeholders

  • Utilise skills ot build, manage and deploy code into enterprise environments

How will I learn?

Our sector expert staff will support you to achieve the apprenticeship. We have highly skilled and knowledgeable staff with significant experience of working in the industry who will be able to share their experiences and support you.

​

We deliver the programme throughout the year providing you with the flexibility to start the apprenticeship when it meets your needs. All learning is either on a 1-2-1 basis or small group webinars so you have the best experience possible with sector experts.

We have designed a flexible programme which is typically delivered on a 1-2-1 basis and includes:

​

  • Assessment and induction

  • Face-to-face sessions (or remote delivery)

  • Regular 1-2-1 support (face to face and/or remote)

  • Assignments

  • Observations

  • Ongoing mentoring, coaching and support (including information, advice and guidance)

  • Specialist English and/or Maths support (if needed)

 

You will also record and track your learning progress through your e-portfolio, helping to support and evidence your journey.

There will be an external assessment at the end of the programme, once the apprentice has achieved the ‘gateway’ requirements. This includes achieving the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care. End-point assessment methods, timescales and location

​

 The end-point assessment consists of two distinct assessment methods:

​

  1. Observation of leadership

  2. Professional discussion

 

The end-point assessment must be completed over a maximum period of three months after the apprentice has met the EPA gateway requirements.

 

  • ​Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.

  • Level 2 English and Maths (If not completed prior to starting the programme). For those with an education, health and care plan, or a legacy statement, the apprentice’s English and Maths requirement is Entry Level 3 at a minimum. For those whose primary language is British Sign Language (BSL), the qualification BSL is an alternative and viable qualification.

Having successfully completed this qualification, learners will have the opportunity to progress to the following:​​

​

  • Senior Leader at Level 7
