VTCT Level 1 Award in Volunteering

Course Summary

VTCT Level 1 Award in Volunteering is primarily designed to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to volunteer within an organisation.   

Learners will develop an understanding of the commitment required to perform well within a voluntary role and the benefits that volunteering can have for themselves and the organisation. Learners will also learn how to seek voluntary positions and the methods of application. 

In addition, learners will gain an understanding of equality and diversity and the behaviour required when working as a volunteer. As part of this qualification learners will be expected to review their performance relating to given tasks.     

Successful completion of this qualification will assist learners in gaining a voluntary position and will improve employment prospects. 

Areas which may be covered during the course:

  • Importance of meeting personal and organisational standards

  • Equal opportunities and safety requirements when volunteering

  • Sorting and managing stock levels

  • Health and Safety

  • Promotional campaigns

  • Communication skills

  • Dealing with complaints

  • Displaying merchandise 

  • Managing money

  • Working effectively within a team

Progression

On completion of this qualification learners may choose to undertake further study including the following qualifications:

  • VTCT Level 1 Certificate in Preparation for Event Volunteering

  • VTCT Level 1 Award in Lifestyle Management

  • VTCT Level 1 Award in Active, Healthy Living

  • VTCT Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning

  • VTCT Level 2 Award in Instructing Circuit Training Sessions

  • VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing 

Alternatively, learners may wish to seek a voluntary position within the sector of their choice.
